Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
